The Faringdon & District Rotary Club played a key role in helping the Lockinge Point-to-Point run smoothly this year, as thousands of racegoers turned out to enjoy a classic day of jump racing and countryside atmosphere.
With cars arriving in steady streams from the early morning onwards, the Rotary volunteers were out in force, marshalling the car park with calm efficiency and a friendly wave. Working row by row, they ensured that vehicles were safely and neatly parked—even as the car park approached full capacity.
It was one of the best attended meetings in recent memory, helped along by a good racing card and a cheerful atmosphere. The weather held out too, with just a few drops of rain, nothing to dampen the spirits of the crowd.
The Point-to-Point, held in the rolling downland above Lockinge, is a highlight of the spring racing calendar and draws racegoers from across the region. This year’s success owed much to the efforts behind the scenes, and the contribution of the Rotary Club was greatly appreciated by organisers and visitors alike.
“This is exactly the sort of thing Rotary is brilliant at,” said one of the event stewards. “They’re reliable, they turn up in numbers, and they get stuck in with good humour.”
Rotary members were quick to credit the teamwork involved. “It’s a great way for us to support a local event and engage with the community,” said a Faringdon Rotarian. “We’re delighted to help – and it’s fun too!”
From directing traffic to offering a warm welcome, the Rotary Club of Faringdon & District helped make a very busy day run like clockwork. It’s another great example of Rotary in action, quietly making a big difference.
