The Rotary Club of Faringdon and District has long been committed to supporting vulnerable children and their education, exemplified by their long standing (since 2015) partnership with the HORAC Children’s Home in Kathmandu, Nepal. Recognising that education is crucial for children to eventually support their families and break the cycle of poverty, the club has dedicated significant resources and efforts to this cause.
The HORAC (Home for the Rescue of Afflicted Children) Children’s Home provides a safe haven for children who have been orphaned or come from extremely disadvantaged backgrounds. Beyond offering basic needs like food and shelter, the home focuses on the children’s educational development. The Rotary Club of Faringdon and District has been instrumental in maintaining the home, ensuring that it remains a nurturing environment for these children.
In addition to helping to fund the home’s upkeep and maintenance, the Rotary Club has made substantial contributions to the children’s future by sponsoring higher and further education. To date, they have sponsored almost 30 children to pursue higher education and university degrees. This sponsorship has opened doors to brighter futures, equipping these young people with the knowledge and skills needed to secure better opportunities and support their families.
The club’s involvement extends beyond financial support. Members have travelled to Nepal several times to engage directly with the project, offering hands-on assistance and building strong relationships with the children and staff at the home. These visits not only provide practical help and moral support, but also demonstrate the club’s deep commitment to the children’s well-being and success.
This is an ongoing project and in 2024 RCFD has sent further funding to maintain the home and support more children in their education.
