Andy Gasthercole joined our RCFD meeting as our guest speaker and enthralled members with tales of his time as a paramedic as part of the ambulance service. He told of tales of attending incidents from the critical emergency to a call when an elderly person wanted the ambulance to just make them a cup of tea.
The ambulance service is in great demand, especially after general practitioners stopped making house calls, and a shift starting at 6am is usually a back to back set of call outs. The time sitting in the ambulance station enjoying a cup of tea is very much a thing of the past.
Andy told of deployments where the paramedic makes all the difference and sadly also of call outs where, despite the best care, the patient did not survive.
The club thanked Andy for an enthralling and interesting presentation which gave us a new insight into the work of a paramedic.
