Anna explains how Maymessy changes lives

Anna Richards joined our recent club meeting and presented the concept of how Maymessy, a community interest company, changes lives of young people and adults by nurturing more collaboration; meaningful communication; teamwork, confidence, self esteem and time outside in the shared garden as well as greater knowledge of healthy eating and wellbeing.

Maymessy is based just 7 miles from Faringdon in the Vale of the White Horse near Challow. At its core, Maymessy teaches cooking skills and with it so much more. Anna established Maymessy to create an empowering enterprise so young people have a positive sense of self as well as increasing the skills and food knowledge of young people and adults. It also focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of disadvantaged groups through bespoke cookery classes, time outside in the shared garden and wellness activities.

Anna’s talk was really enthralling. The stories of how, through cooking, skills are learnt which in turn change lives. A recent set of classes focused on how to cook nourishing and well balanced meals on a budget.

Anna suggested a collaboration between Maymessy and Rotary Club Faringdon and District and the club was more than eager to assist with making connections, networking and suggesting how to approach young people who may need a bit of help and confidence.

Shaena Whitney, Rotary Club Faringdon and District President, thanked Anna for taking the time to present and explain such a wonderful venture in our locality.
