Glyn & Clive’s Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) Muli Peak Climb/Walk Jun 19th 2021 for Prostate Cancer Research
It was back in 2008 when Clive and I started to do a significant climb/walk on an annual basis, we have continued our challenges every year since, even during 2020 and lock down (we consider being up a mountain constitutes isolation), not always to raise monies, sometimes just for the Challenge and enjoyment
We have climbed all four peaks in the British Isles, we completed the Welsh three peaks several times, and climbed various peaks in the Brecon Beacons and taken the Yorkshire Three peaks challenge, of three peaks, 4000ft, 26 miles in 12 hours.
So Prostate Cancer Research UK set a new Challenge initially for 2020, but Covid put it back to 2021, instead of the Welsh Three Peaks, they had reduced the travel, by proposing we walk/climb a Snowdon Multi-peak event, consisting of climbing in total 5 peaks in the Snowdon massive, Moel Eilio,(2382), Foel Gron(1946), Foel Goch(1985), Moel Cynghorion(2212), and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)(3560), total height of 12085, but a climb of around 7000ft in a distance of 13.5miles.
We commenced our walk at 8:30 on Saturday 19th June, the first peak was hard, but our freshness carried us to the top, then down and across the two smaller peak’s, a struggle then to the peak of Moel Cynghorion, where lunch was had(pasties), back down again, then the 1500ft straight climb up the Snowdon Rangers path, to summit on the highest point in England and Wales at 3pm, descending back to the Victoria Hotel in Llamberis for a very welcome pint by 5pm
Not bad going for two guys in their 70’s. It was a hard walk/climb but we both enjoyed it
We raised £1500 + gift aid, a total of £1875 for Prostate Cancer Research UK.
