Our club members are very proud to have been able to support groups in and around Faringdon that in turn support refugees and asylum seekers. Ours was one of many Rotary clubs across the Thames Valley district worked with their communities to support Ukrainians as they arrived in our towns and villages after the full scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia. And some of the same clubs have supported other groups of refugees or asylum seekers often when placed in hotels or other short term accommodation.
The magazine for Rotary across Britain and Ireland focussed on support of refugees and asylum seekers this month. Members of our club and neighbouring clubs chatted with the editor and you can read the full article in the January magazine with a slightly reduced version in the digital magazine. Hidden in the Shadows.
In the same issue there is an interview with Nick Harborne, Rotarian and Chief Executive of the Refugee Support Group in Reading. The RSG provides many areas of support for refugees and asylum seekers, from drop-in sessions with sign posting services, to legal support for asylum applications and settlement services for those who have been granted the right to stay.
