The International Project Group (IPG) launches its Emergency Appeal for the HORAC Children’s Home.
They came from miles around; from Faringdon, Clanfield, Fernham, Uffington and places in-between. It was another great Faringdon Rotary Club break for freedom and Shrivenham’s social event of the summer. On Saturday 31 July, Rotarians, Honorary Rotarians and Friends of Rotary from across the Vale of the White Horse and beyond joined together to enjoy a High Tea to remember, and to launch our new emergency COVID appeal for the HORAC Children’s Home in Nepal. This hugely popular fundraiser attracted 34 thirsty tea drinkers, including DG Karen and President Clive We all feasted until our heart’s content and hunger pangs were satisfied on the best Barrington Arms finely cut crust less sandwiches, scones, cream and strawberry jam, and a selection of delicious cakes. It was a time to reconnect; to strike up new conversations between the three tier cake stands; and to help out our Children at the Home for the Rescue of Afflicted Children (HORAC) in Nepal.
Bjorn delivered a well prepared talk explaining the context and history of our Club’s support, since the 2015 Earthquake, to the HORAC Children’s Home. He explained the present funding crisis and the need to support the basic needs of “our” young children over the coming months. He remembered his visits to the home and the impact of meeting such well motivated young people eager and determined to take every opportunity to improve their awareness and education. This was followed by another master class in speech-making by our very own Orator, Douglas, who used wit, charm and intellect to point the way forward for the IPG, reminding us all that Rotary is an international organization with a truly international mission. Charity may start at home; but it doesn’t end there….
So far, our successful fundraising appeal has touched the hearts of many. Donations have been received and much appreciated from across our Club; from other Rotarians outside our Club and from Friends of Nepal and HORAC. We are delighted to let our supporters know that the COVID Emergency Fund for HORAC has reached over £2500. On behalf of our Children in HORAC, a huge and heartfelt “Thank you”.
