Plastic Blitz is an initiative run by Rotary in the Thames Valley alongside the Environment Agency and Thames21. Rotary clubs across our district, particularly those along the River Thames are out and about in May and June collecting litter from the river banks and riverside paths.
Karen from our club joined members of Oxford North Rotary to tidy up along the Thames footpath from Binsey to Osney. The weather was beautiful, lots of people said thank you and the weight and volume of litter wasn’t so bad that we couldn’t carry it. So overall it was a lovely morning on the Thames. We could ask what motivates anyone to drop litter rather than take it home and we were particularly surprised at the number of dog poo bags hanging in the hedge or dropped at the side of the path. But, it happens, so the day was worthwhile and that stretch of the Thames is a little tidier and safer.
