A short reminder of the amazing international work of RCFD
In the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015, the Rotary Club of Faringdon and District led a Thames Valley Rotary consortium and stepped up to support the reconstruction of vital educational infrastructure. Partnering with the Rotary Club of Kopundol in Kathmandu, they embarked on an ambitious project to help rebuild two new schools in Gorka Province. The most significant and the largest reconstruction school project was in Saupani, a village at the top of the middle hills, near the earthquake’s epicenter.

Understanding the critical role that education plays in the recovery and development of communities, the Rotary Club of Faringdon and District focused its efforts on ensuring that children in Saupani could continue their education in a safe and supportive environment. Through their combined fundraising efforts working with other UK Rotary Clubs in Maidenhead, Oxford and London, we successfully raised £30,000 to fund the reconstruction of the schools.

This collaborative project was a testament to the power of international partnership and community spirit. Rotarians from all the clubs worked tirelessly, contributing not only financial resources but also their time and expertise. The project saw members from Faringdon and other clubs in the Rotary Consortium travelling to Nepal to meet up with our partners in Kopundol Rotary Club, and oversee the construction, ensure quality, and offer hands-on assistance.

The new school, now fully operational, stand as a beacon of hope and resilience for the Saurpani community. The school provides a secure space for learning and have become central to the village’s recovery and future growth. The successful completion of the Saurpani school has had a profound impact on the local children, who now have the opportunity to pursue their education uninterrupted.
