“RYLA” – Rotary Youth Leadership Award – July 17th – 24th 2021
This is a fantastic opportunity for young people aged between 18 and 25 which takes place over a week in July at an Outdoor centre in Snowdonia, North Wales.
This is a Residential course, on arrival on the Saturday evening, teams are created which remain in place for the whole week. There is some theory of leadership styles but the majority of the time is spent completing a range of mainly outdoor activities. Initially these activities build team working and communication skills. The candidates get the opportunity to experience and participate in a number of team based activities which include such things as sailing, kayaking, abseiling and visiting a Slate mine. The skills they learn will then be combined in completing the final challenge activity which takes place over the last two days of the week.
Overall it’s a fabulous week of fun in the outdoors, that’s not to say some activities or even days might be challenging. However, at the end of the week participants will have made new friends, learnt new skills, taken the lead in some of the activities and have a new found self-confidence. Each participant completing the course will receive a certificate of completion.
There is no financial cost to this opportunity, it isFully sponsored by Faringdon and District Rotary Club including your transport to and from North Wales.
Apart from your participation, the only commitment of is that once you’re back from the week in Wales you have to speak to our Rotary club about your RYLA experience.
